Cronulla Sharks poach James Maloney from Sydney Roosters
Sydney Roosters five eighth James Maloney has inked a three year deal with Cronulla Sharks today that will link him with the club from 2016.
The Roosters were not able to keep Maloney as they looked to stay under the salary cap, and as a result the premiership winning five eight has been linked to a move for sometime.
The Sharks will be buoyed by the signature, having struggled to maintain a strong halves combination, particularly following the sacking of Todd Carney in 2014. The club will be hoping the experienced half can help steer them towards scoring more points, a problem for the Sharks in recent seasons.
The Roosters see Jackson Hastings as their future and will use him to cover Maloney’s departure.
In further signing news for the Sharks, it is believed that Warriors’ halfback Chad Townsend has signed a two year deal to return to the shire in 2016, which looks more certain to push Jeff Robson in to retirement.
