Giants hand Simpson full-time deal

Jared Simpson has signed a two-year full-time contract with Huddersfield Giants.

The 19 year-old came through the Giants junior system and made a try-scoring debut for the first team against Wigan last month.

The outside back, who is the son of former Bradford star Roger Simpson, has made four Super League appearances for Huddersfield so far this season.

“It’s been a whirlwind month or so for me making the step into Super League and I’ve now achieved my goal from the start of the year, which was to get a full time deal and stay at the club,” Simpson told the Huddersfield Examiner.

Head coach Paul Anderson said that Simpson has earned his new deal: “Jared deserves the opportunity to stay around longer and go into the top squad with immediate effect as everyone has seen with his performances over the past few weeks in Super League the potential that the coaches here have known was in him,” he told Sporting Life.

“He is a tremendous example of a youngster who has taken an opportunity that presented itself to him. He now has the challenge next year of being out of the academy and in with men week in week out which will take a toll at some point and means he needs to have a good off season and learn the realities of professional life on and off the field.”

Simpson has scored two tries in his four appearances for the Giants in 2015.
