Kingstone Press Championship Round 22 – Batley Bulldogs 45-28 Hunslet Hawks

A high scoring affair at the Fox’s Biscuits Stadium. Batley were only four points up at the break but they made more daylight during the second half. Callum Casey put the visitors in front after 14 minutes before Alex Brown replied a short four minutes later. As the half entered its final quarter, Luke Blake notched a four pointer but his Batley side were pegged back when Jack Lee and Jimmy Watson scored consecutive tries. The topsy-turvy half ended with the hosts on top after tries from prop forwards Sean Hesketh and Tom Lillycrop. Hunslet had a man sent to the sin-bin with a minute of the half remaining. Liam Mackay was dismissed for ten minutes after the visitors were given a team warning moments earlier. Brown completed his brace after the restart, seven minutes before Brad Day made a visit to the whitewash as the hosts were pacing themselves away from their opponents. Shaun Squires furthered the Bulldogs’ advantage as the hour mark approached, and during the final quarter Hunslet got their first score of the half via Andy Yates. The damage was already done though, more so when Joe Chandler scored for a Batley side who did their survival chances a lot of good with this win. Hunslet hooker Lee crossed the chalk for a consolation try on 73 minutes. Scott Leatherbarrow ended the scoring with a drop-goal.
