A great first win for the Roughyeds in the Championship as Scott Naylor’s men dominated their West Yorkshire counterparts at Bower Fold. At the halfway mark, the Rams were very much under the pump. Oldham held a 24-0 lead after tries from Tom Ashton, Gareth Owen as well as a double courtesy of Danny Langtree. Oldham scored two tries while Dewsbury winger Dalton Grant was in the sin-bin for tripping. However, the Roughyeds had a man sent to the bin on 39 minutes when full-back Richard Lepori was penalised for a professional foul. With a numerical advantage the visitors replied in perfect fashion, getting the first score of the second half inside a minute thanks to Dalton Grant. Unfortunately for Glenn Morrison’s side, any momentum gained was halted when Michael Ward resumed normal service on 47 minutes with an Oldham try. Grant then cut the deficit again a short while later but any sort of comeback wasn’t forthcoming as the Roughyeds’ defence held firm. Nathan Conroy and Ben Reynolds were both sent to the sin-bin for dissent in the final quarter as the Rams finished the match with 11 men. In those ten minutes, Owen and Adam Clay added tries before young prop forward Jack Teanby scored a consolation for Dewsbury in the latter stages.
