The opening match of the weekend was played at the Select Security Stadium in Widnes on Saturday as Bradford Bulls sauntered past a spirited Swinton side. The outcome of the match was hardly ever in doubt but John Duffy’s Lions team never backed down and did themselves justice by the end of the tie. The first three tries of the game went the way of Bradford through Tom Olbison and a brace from Kris Welham. Josh Barlow responded for Swinton on 30 minutes to keep his side in close contact with their opponents but the class of the Bulls shone through with two tries in the latter stages of the half. Omari Caro and James Clare both crossed the whitewash to put the visitors 26-6 up at the break. Tries from Matty Blythe and Welham furthered Bradford’s lead in the second half before two scores in five minutes for Swinton added some gloss to the scoreline. Shaun Robinson and Greg Scott made their way over the chalk as the game entered its final quarter. To end the game, Bradford put two more tries on the scoreboard via Olbison and star half-back Lee Gaskell. A job well done by the Bulls.
