Intrust Super Cup Preview: Burleigh Bears

Twitter: @BurleighBears
Home Ground: Pizzey Park, Miami
Coach: Jim Lenihan
Last Year: 9th – 10 wins – 13 losses

Burleigh had what could be described as a Jekyl and Hyde season in 2015, with strong away wins over top 6 sides Ipswich and Wynnum Manly combined with some hidings at the hands of the Blackhawks in Townsville and Redcliffe at home. Their overall for and against was the third worst in the Intrust Super Cup in 2015.

There has been a lot of movement in the off season, and a lot of quality has been lost in the form of Henare Wells to the NZ Warriors, and Ryley Jacks (Sunshine Coast Falcons), Khan Ahwang (Northern Pride) to rival ISC teams. However they have attracted the excellent Cameron Cullen from Mackay to the club in 2016, Wests Tigers player Kurtis Rowe and fringe Titans Jamie Dowling and Chad Redman amongst others.

It looks an exciting overhaul and maybe one that will be enough to get the Bears back into the finals race in 2016.

Key Matches:
Burleigh will need to turn around the dominance of the Tweed Heads Seagulls as the Gold Coast’s dominant side.
The visit to Townsville in Round 19 will be interesting to see if they can turn around the 78-6 defeat handed to them by the Blackhawks.
The Anzac Day fixture against the PNG Hunters looks a great annual event and match.
