Sheffield Eagles’ recent slump was ended on Sunday when they defeated Bradford Bulls 46-28 at the Provident Stadium. It was Bradford who started the better of the two sides and they went 12-0 up in the opening quarter thanks to tries from Danny Addy and Lee Gaskell. However, a Cory Aston interception try got the Eagles on the board and lifted the visitors’ confidence in the process. Further scores from Elliot Minchella and Ryan Millar put Sheffield 18-12 in front heading into half-time. After the restart, Garry Lo notched a length-of-the-field effort to extend the Eagles’ lead to the delight of their boisterous following. Aston couldn’t convert but he did make amends by slotting over a penalty goal minutes later. Bradford hit back in quick time as the deficit was cut to six points after Omari Caro’s try was converted. Three consecutive tries from the Eagles put the game beyond doubt and the South Yorkshire side even racked up their 40th point for the match too. Mark Mexico, Duane Straugheir and Ryan Millar all crossed the whitewash for Sheffield, who bounced back in style after an array of disappointing results. James Clare and Kris Welham both registered consolation tries for the hosts, and in-between those scores came one for Eagles centre George Tyson. Worrying times for Bradford while Sheffield will be wanting to push on after a big win.
