Batley Bulldogs 24-32 Swinton Lions

Swinton Lions secured their fourth consecutive victory with a very good performance against Batley Bulldogs at the Fox’s Biscuits Stadium. The Lions started the game like a house on fire and they scored the first three tries of the contest courtesy of Shaun Robinson, Liam Marshall and Ben White. Adam Gledhill did respond with a four pointer of his own for Batley but John Kear’s men went into the break two scores down at 18-6. Swinton needed to keep up the intensity in the second half and a 45th minute try from Vila Halafihi was the perfect start. However, tries from Batley prop Gledhill and full-back Dave Scott cut the deficit to just six points and the Lions were under the pump. A try from a free play for Lions winger Marshall meant that the Championship newbies were well on their way to victory and, although Scott grabbed his second try of the game with 12 minutes to go, they held on in style. Dual-registered full-back Gabriel Fell sealed the spoils for the visitors with a four pointer on 73 minutes. John Duffy’s side have shown their worth in the second tier and they look to be getting stronger by the game. Batley may be faltering but they’re still in the top four as it stands.

Prediction – Batley by 14
