Raiders secure home final
The men from Canberra silenced the Leichhardt crowd by scoring nine tries to thrash the Wests Tigers 52-10. After the Sharks loss to the Storm on Saturday night, Ricky Stuart’s men entered the match knowing a win would see the club host the Sharks next weekend. After an inconsistent start to the season, the Raiders have won 10 games on the trot to cement their place amongst the favourites in the competition.
Korbin Sims ends Tigers season?
After the Titans loss to the Cowboys, the Wests Tigers entered this clash knowing a win would grant the side their first finals appearance since 2011. However, the Tigers capitulated in front of their home fans.
The Tigers will free aggrieved about their side’s controversial loss to Newcastle earlier this season. While attempting to catch a high ball, Jordan Rankin dropped the football after Korbin Sims kicked a second ball towards the winger. Uate made the most of the situation by pouncing on the loose ball to score. While fans may wonder what could have been, on Sunday’s showing, the Tigers would not have impacted the finals series.
The Raiders were shaky in defence against the Eels and Sea Eagles but were back to their best against the Tigers. The Green Machine only let in two tries and were resolute when the Tigers peppered their line early in the second half. Mitchell Moses was the only player who looked like creating a chance for the Tigers with quick, well-angled runs.
The Raiders best purchase of 2016
That around the back pass from Leilua for Rapana’s try was something out of this world. Perhaps that special, basketball style play would never have happened if the Raiders didn’t purchase…a basketball system at the start of the year. Although the recruitment at the Raiders has been fantastic, this little purchase could be the best of the lot. The two players who use this hoop the most? Leilua and Rapana of course.
