Sheffield Eagles youngster Greg Burns has agreed a new one-year part-time contract with the club.
The 21-year-old hooker was a product of the Eagles’ famed youth structure, and his association with his local club is set to continue into the upcoming season.
A player who has shown a great deal of potential, Burns will be looking to kick on after successfully overcoming a serious shoulder injury, which saw him miss a large chunk of last season’s campaign.
“I am delighted to have the opportunity to continue to work with Greg again,” director of rugby an acting CEO Mark Aston told www.sheffieldeagles.com
“We have known for sometime that Greg has enormous potential, and I firmly believe that this is the season where he will really make a name for himself.
“He made great progress when he first made the fringes of the first team, but now has to kick on and try and make himself a regular in the side for the 2017 campaign.
“He has shown great resilience to come through what was a pretty serious injury last season. We knew he was a tough kid, but mentally to come back from that disappointment is testament to his character, now he needs to ready himself for the next challenge.
“We have tremendous faith in Greg, this is a wonderful opportunity for him.”
Burns made his debut for the Eagles in a Challenge Cup tie against Oldham in 2015, and made three appearances last season against Bradford, Workington and Dewsbury.
