Intrust Super Cup Round 3 Review

Just the three teams remain unbeaten in the 2017 Intrust Super Cup after three rounds, with Townsville Blackhawks, PNG Hunters and Wynnum Seagulls the only teams on 100%.

It hasn’t been a great start for either of the Gold Coast sides as both Burleigh and Tweed Heads remain without a point in their first 3 games.

There were big wins, big hits, upsets, and many points of interest, and a short round up of all the games is below.

The first game of the weekend saw the biggest win of Round 3 as Townsville ran in 10 converted tries to two as they thumped the Mackay Cutters and gave the Blackhawks the lead of the competition on for and against.

Central Capras beat the Burleigh Bears 12-10 after coming back from 10-0 down in the second half to register their first win of the season. For Burleigh it sadly leaves them without a win in the first three rounds.

In Cairns the Sunshine Coast Falcons had a good win over the Northern Pride on Saturday night to get their first win of the season.

A surprise result finished off the Saturday night games as Easts Tigers beat the Redcliffe Dolphins, a result very few would have seen coming.

The big TV game of the weekend was the Flockbuster clash between the two Seagulls sides from Tweed Heads and Wynnum in very wet conditions on North Stradbroke Island. Tweed Heads looked likely to take an unlikely first win of the season after three quick tries early, but Wynnum got the better of the game after the first 15 minutes and handled the conditions better and sealed the win with a late try.

The PNG Hunters beat the Souths Logan Magpies in a tough game in tough conditions at Davies Park. The Magpies had a chance to steal a draw after the siren with a sideline conversion.

There was mild surprise at Bishop Park as the Norths Devils easily accounted for the Ipswich Jets. Norths have started the season well, and their 32-10 win was well deserved and finished off the third round of the Intrust Super Cup.
