St George-Illawarra have seen the promise in Matt Dufty by offering him a contract extension until the end of 2019.

Dufty came through the junior system at the Dragons, making seven appearances in his debut season.

He made an immediate impact at fullback in his first appearance for the Red V against Manly Sea Eagles on a Sunday afternoon at WIN Stadium.  He made a significant impact in the backline as his side recorded a big 52-22 win.

With Josh Dugan’s departure to Cronulla Sharks during the off-season, Dufty has a huge opportunity to secure the number 1 jumper permanently.

“It’s great to be here for another year. I thought being at the Dragons was the best opportunity for me moving forward in my rugby league career,” Dufty told NRL.com.

St George-Illawarra Dragons kick off their 2018 campaign when they face the Brisbane Broncos at Jubilee Oval on Thursday, March 8.
