Things are hotting up in the race for the top eight while there are big games at the top too. Here are my predictions…
Salford Red Devils vs Widnes Vikings (Thu, 7:45pm)
Salford have slipped further and further down the table in recent weeks and look almost certain for the Qualifiers without a sharp upturn in form. After losing to two of their rivals for eighth spot, they were absolutely torn apart at Hull FC last week.
That said, you would still rather be in their position than Widnes’ – seven points adrift of that mark with seven to go and on a nine match losing run in Super League.
Their last win came against the Red Devils, and a repeat is a must. This game could go either way but I can see the bottom side picking up the two points.
Prediction: Salford Red Devils 16-24 Widnes Vikings
Huddersfield Giants vs Catalans Dragons (Fri, 7:45pm)
There’s free entry for this one and the two sides will hope to produce a much better game than their Challenge Cup clash a fortnight ago.
Catalans edged that one but both are in decent form, and this game looks to be crucial in deciding who finishes which way of the split.
Huddersfield have won their last four league games and are starting to show their quality, and I think they can continue that run on home soil.
Prediction: Huddersfield Giants 24-18 Catalans Dragons
Leeds Rhinos vs St Helens (Fri, 7:45pm)
Leeds pulled off a fantastic win in this fixture earlier in the campaign, but things have only got worse and worse since that night in March.
The opposite can be said of St Helens, who didn’t let that blip get to them as they continued their storm through the competition.
Form suggests an easy win but I expect the Rhinos to turn up for a big game like this. It’s still a stretch to see them winning though.
Prediction: Leeds Rhinos 22-28 St Helens
