What was good about their season?
Lee Radford’s side had a promising season at one point. Going into a Challenge Cup semi-final in second in the League, Hull looked as if they could achieve two honours this season.
Despite being hammered by Warrington, Huddersfield and St Helens earlier in the season, Hull fans were hopefully to return to Wembley and make a first Old Trafford appearance since 2006.
With an attacking trio of Albert Kelly, Marc Sneyd and Jake Connor, Hull looked dangerous as a side and would go a long way.
One of the most memorable moments of the season was a comfortable 54-12 win at home against local rivals Hull KR.
What was not so good about their season?
Hull looked promising with a Challenge Cup semi-final appearance and sat second in the League. However, a bitterly disappointing end to the season resulted in Lee Radford’s side missing out on the playoffs on points difference.
After their 22-14 defeat to Warrington at Bolton, Hull lost 5 of their remaining six League matches which took them from second to sixth. With this happening in previous seasons, many fans ended the season questioning if Radford is the man to take Hull forward.
The Black and Whites suffered heavy defeats at home to Warrington, away at Saints and arguably the most memorable was a 55-2 loss against Huddersfield at the Magic Weekend.
Who was their best player in 2019?
At the end of season awards, Josh Griffin was the clear winner. The centre picked up three awards – Player of the season, Player’s Player of the season and try of the season. Griffin has had a point to prove this season with Hull investing heavily in most areas for 2020 and he showed up to be their best player.
Acting more versatile he mainly played centre, however was used as a second rower at times. With Adam Swift and Mahe Fonua arriving next season competition will be hotter in the backs next season.
