NRL | The Parramatta Eels brutally defeat the West Tigers, christening their new stadium

The world of sports has such variety to offer to different people of different tastes. Recently in the world of Rugby, about 800 million fans around the globe are enjoying the exciting and exhilarating National Rugby League. Glued to their seats as they watch the Premiership season, they were certainly in for a treat when the Parramatta Eels “christened” their new 300 million dollar Bankwest stadium located in New South Wales, Australia by beating the West Tigers 51-6.

The Eels were dominant from start to finish, running in nine tries to one in front of a 29,047-strong crowd as they jumped into fifth spot and it was considered a great start to life in their new home. Many fans are calling it a “Mitchell Moses miracle” and for good reason since. The Parramatta Eels halfback kicked a field goal, scored a try and set up three more in the 51-6 win.

Not only did he aid his team mates in scoring 9 tries (5 points each), he also managed to score 7 conversions himself (2 points each) and 1 field goal (3 points each). Parramatta captain, Clint Gutterson, claims the crowd went ‘mental’ as they completed their scoring 51-6 against the Tigers.

The Tigers looked every bit top eight contenders after winning three of their first five, but their middle forwards were badly beaten and made to pay for some lazy defence and poor missed tackles. In the first five rounds the Tigers only conceded 59 points but were blown off the park on Monday.

Although the Tigers have many top-class players such as Luke Brooks (West Tigers’ halfback) who has the potential to step up and take control of the team with the likes of Josh Reynolds and Benji Marshall around him, the team didn’t really manage to perform. According to Katie Brown, he will also be a firm contender if he remains injury free and continues on his form last season to win the top individual gong at the end of this Premiership season.

However, it seems now that if he wants to remain in the contenders list, he must step up his game. The performance against the Eels simply doesn’t cut it for receiving an award such as the Dally M. It seems top-class players find it difficult sometimes to remain in fit shape always. In the world of football, for example, Manchester United haven’t had such a wonderful Premier League season despite the talent and skill that exists in their team players such as Paul Pogba. With the wealth of attacking players at United’s disposal, it’s waste to have them sitting back and grinding out results.

Thus, it really isn’t solely the players fault but the team around him as well and so fans will be eagerly anticipating the match against West Tigers vs Titans on the 27th of April. Hopefully, the Tigers get a chance to redeem themselves of this defeat and prove to the rugby world that this score isn’t all that they’re capable of.
