FOUR POINTERS | Intrust Super Cup Round 8

Matt Crowhurst has all the latest Intrust Super Cup news in our Four Pointers wrap.

All Class from JB

We rang coach Jon Buchanan this week to talk about the Queensland Residents side. The phone went to voice mail, we left a message and Jon called us straight back, in less than two minutes. We had a great chat and you’ll see the resultant article on www.qrl.com.au this week. All class from big Jon and a shining example of how coaches and the media should work together. One Intrust Super Cup coach could take a lesson from Jon.

What’s Doing?

What’s doing on the Redcliffe Peninsula? Dolphins Intrust Super Cup coach Adam Mogg is a very good coach, there’s no doubting that, whatever is going wrong at the club can not be laid at his feet. However, there is definitely something wrong within the club. The Mal Meninga Cup side went 6 losses from six games and the Hastings Deering Colts went 8 losses from 8 starts. The Intrust Super Cup squad have at least won 2 games. Still, two wins from twenty three outings does not reflect well on the club. There are off field dramas swirling around the club as well, again these have nothing to do with the Cup squad and are coming from the troubled Mal Meninga and Hastings Deering Colts programs.

Congratulations Nicho

Congratulations to Nicho Hynes on signing with the Melbourne Storm. There are a number of other players in the throws of doing similar deals. We know of two experienced Cup players (they have both played over 50 Cup games) a half and a hard working back rower whose managers are in talks with NRL clubs. Both players will finish the year in Cup but could be calling a new city home in 2020.

Youth to the fore

Look for some new faces to appear in the Northern Pride line up in the weeks ahead with news coming out of the Pride camp that coach Ty Williams intends to concentrate on promoting youth as he builds toward the future. There may be some tough times coming as a wealth of young talent finds its feet at this level but Williams is confident of better times ahead for the club in 2020 once the young men settle in.
