Catalans Dragons have announced that second rower Benjamin Garcia has signed a contract extension, keeping him in the South of France at the Stade Gilbert Brutus until the end of the 2021 season.
Garcia, 25, has previously played for Brisbane Broncosโ NYC side, and is currently in his second spell at the Dragons.
Benjamin is in his peak as a Rugby League player and his best years playing with Catalans are yet to come. He was a youngster back in his first spell with the Dragons, meaning he wasn’t able to show off his skills as a forward but now, he can show these skills in the next few years.
Garcia has made 98 Super League appearances, scoring 17 tries. He played a part in Catalansโ Million Pound Game win over Leigh last year and has kicked on, developing into a key player for Steve McNamara’s side this year.
Since McNamara joined as head coach after Laurent Fraysioniouss was sacked, he has put his trust in the young man, and it has clearly paid off with this contract extension.
โIโm delighted to stay at the club,” Garcia said. “I received several options to pursue my career in another club but my wish was to stay here.
“Iโm grateful to the club for the efforts theyโve made to keep me. I feel good in this club, in this team and Iโm really looking forward to continue working with Steve.
“He built a great squad, who enjoy working together, and he and the club have great ambitions for the future and Iโm really happy to be a part of it.โ
