4. Jack Welsby’s match-winning try in Super League Grand Final classic
In the lowest-scoring grand final in Super League’s 23-year history, it took a stroke of luck and a flying teenager to hand St Helens back-to-back titles.
With scores level at 4-4, Tommy Makinson attempted a long-range field goal to break the deadlock. The ball smashed into the right hand upright and bounced back into the field of play before going over the crossbar. Welsby chased through to ground the ball just before his right leg went over the dead ball line.
It was the 19-year-old’s third try in 12 appearances: one he is unlikely to forget for the rest of his career.
