4. Fewer Bunker Blunders
While video technology is all well and good, footy fans are sick of the Bunker’s regular blunders, and the too-little-too-late Monday apologies.
After reducing the Bunker officials to just one, there was a rule experiment in round 20 last year: “The Bunker will now review replays after an on-field referee awards a try, but a conversion attempt will not be allowed until it gets the green light.”
The effect was immediate, with Hamiso Tabuai-Fidow denied a spectacular try against the Broncos. The new rule survived into 2021, so hopefully it’ll cut down on the blatant Bunker blunders. It should allow the on-field referee to confidently award tries in real time, knowing the Bunker can intervene if needed.
