Castleford continued their dominance of Super League in 2017 with a convincing 38-0 win over the Centurions at the Leigh Sports Village. Greg Eden got another 4 tries to add to his 2017 tally and his fourth effortย was the Tiger’s 100th try of the competition this year.
EVEN STEVENS TO BEGIN WITH
Both teams came out strong to start the game. Leigh had the first opportunity to score with Vea crossing the line, only for the video referee to disallow it. Possession was fairly equal in the first 10-15 minutes with a close encounter looking likely.
SENE-LAFAO BRACE SETS CASTLEFORD UP
His first try came in the 14th minute following a great kick down the sideline by himself. Gale collected and offloaded to Sene-Lafao who ran around the back of him to score. A great effort from the New Zealand-born second-rower.
This opened up the floodgates down that side of the pitch with Sene-Lafo crossing over again to make it 12-0 in the 23rd minute.
EDEN CAN’T STOP SCORING
After another disallowed try for Leigh, Castleford turned on the style, with a Greg Eden hat-trick in a dreadful last 10 minutes for the Centurions. His first score came in the 33rd minute followed by another in the 35th and his hat-trick try in the 37th. That makes it four hat-tricks in four games for the winger! This made the score 28-0 at the half-time hooter.
CASTLEFORD’S DEFENCE JUST AS GOOD
Leigh were unfortunately on the end of a heavy defeat but they don’t look too far off another victory. They had plenty of ball but just at times, lacked the execution to carry off certain plays.
Just to add salt in the wound, Eden crossed over for his fourth try of the day, scoring Castleford’s 100th try of this season’s campaign in the 48th minute. A final try from Jake Webster in the 57th minute sealed the win for the Tigers.

“I thought we were superb in the second 20 minutes of the first half. We defended well all the way through but made too many errors when we got in attacking positions early on.
“To nil a team is very difficult to do and we showed some last-ditch stuff there which shows the character in the team. We have done that twice now this season and they are big results for us.”
