Titans Missing the Final Piece
The Titans seem to be missing a final piece of the puzzle, with an inability to win close games this season. The Titans have lost to the Sharks by 5 points, the Dragons by 5 points, and the Bulldogs by 1 point in the past 3 weeks, and despite doing well to stay in the contests, they have been unable to secure the close matches. The fight has been there, but the Gold Coast just seem to be lacking a match winning player.
Reynolds Pushes for Origin Selection
Bulldogs five-eight Josh Reynolds did no harm to his chances of reclaiming a Blues jersey, with a match winning performance against the Titans. Reynolds, who helped guide NSW to a rare series win in 2014, was instrumental in the Bulldogs win, setting up two tries and kicking the match winning field goal in extra time. With the blues halves positions still being up for grabs, Reynolds put his best foot forward with a strong game.
Roberts Fails to Lead by Example
With over 100 first grade games to his name, Titans half Tyrone Roberts failed to control the game for his side, and was outshone by Cameron Cullen, in just his second NRL game. The Titans had multiple chances in good field position to secure the win with a field goal, yet Roberts failed to clinch victory, as he inexplicably put up a bomb on only the 3rd tackle, and then later a grubber on the 4th tackle. Although he has only played 8 NRL games, the Titans missed the composure and kicking game of rookie halfback Ashley Taylor.
Bulldogs Snap Hoodoo
The Titans have been a danger team to the Bulldogs in recent years, winning 4 of the last 5 games between the sides, and having a winning record over the Dogs. However, the Bulldogs ensured that wouldn’t continue, as they managed to come out on top of their Gold Coast rivals. The Titans still exceeded expectations to come within only 1 point of victory, as the Bulldogs were short priced favourites going into the clash.
