Four Pointers: Cronulla Sharks 44 Sydney Roosters 12

Sharks fire back from disappointing last outing

It was an absolute onslaught from the Sharks as they piled on 7 tries to the Roosters 2. They atoned for their horror completion rate of last week to post a perfect, error-free 19/19 completions in the first half.

There was nothing the Roosters could answer back with as the Sharks backline ran rampant on their defence. There was no need to stress about a 2nd half comeback for them as they dominated the whole game.

Lewis winding back the clock again

Right place, right time and a wealth of nearly 300 games of first grade experience found Luke Lewis giving everyone a sense of deja vu as he went on another 90m intercept run for a try.

At 33 years young, he couldn’t be caught as he charged onto a wayward pass out of dummy half for a brace of magic tries. There was some consideration as to whether he was offside or not but facts are irrelevant in a good story.

Roosters lacking forward punch

The Roosters weren’t really destroyed up the middle by Cronulla’s forward. It was more of a case that the Roosters own forwards weren’t offering up much more than penalties. Ryan Matterson had a very strong game but otherwise prop forwards Waerea-Hargreaves and Napa contributed little to the Roosters go forward and they were comprehensively outplayed despite the fact the Sharks rested Gallen and Fifita had a quiet game.

The absence of Boyd Cordner and Sio Taukeiaho definitely made an impact on the Chooks play. Their presence in the forward pack makes a huge difference and they’ll be hoping they’ll both be back as soon as possible.

Central Coast not a happy hunting ground for Chooks

Whilst the crowd record for an NRL game on the Central Coast was broken, the Roosters aren’t proving to have much on field success up there. The Roosters have only won 2 out of their last 10 matches at the stadium and in their last two games, it’s been former teammates that have come back to haunt them in Tuivasa-Sheck and Maloney.

Rugby League fans deprived of live footy on the Central Coast turned out in their droves to watch the game but the Chooks failed to turn up with them. In future perhaps they should consider letting other teams go there or avoid having two ‘home’ games in a row after they made the trek to Adelaide last week.
