The Intrust Super Cup kicks off this weekend, and it has been a long time coming since the Burleigh Bears beat the Redcliffe Dolphins in the big game at Suncorp Stadium last September.

The 2017 season picks up where it left off in 2016 with a replay of that very game at Dolphin Oval on Sunday afternoon giving the TV viewer at home their first taste of the season.

Redcliffe will be looking for revenge after the Bears beat them twice in the finals, including the big game.

It’s not the first game though, as the season begins on the Sunshine Coast between two sides Easts Tigers and the Sunshine Coast Falcons who will be fighting for places in the finals and their players fighting for places in the Melbourne Storm side.

Up north the Foley Shield (an historic local competition including Cairns, Townsville, Mackay) will be played for in 2017, and Mackay host Northern Pride in the first game. A little further south the Central Capras will be looking to keep on improving on 2016 as they take on the excitement machine PNG Hunters.

Onto Sunday’s games, and two Brisbane sides go head to head at Davies Park when Wynnum visit Souths Logan. On the other side of the river Norths Devils welcome the Townsville Blackhawks. Down at Piggabeen Tweed Heads take on the Ipswich Jets.
