Good things come in threes they say, and for the 4 unbeaten teams in Redcliffe, Townsville, PNG and Wynnum they will certainly be hoping that is the case.
There are three sides hoping that another saying comes true, as Central, Tweed Heads, and Burleigh will be hoping for third time lucky this weekend to kick off their pointless season so far.
Throw in the Easts Tigers and Sunshine Coast Falcons who drew in the first round, and you have a big group of teams looking to get their 2017 season going.
Below is a short rundown of the games ahead, but for a full preview with teams and statistics follow the links for each game or visit our Intrust Super Cup Match Centre.
Round 3 kicks off in Townsville as the second leg of the Foley shield between the three big North Queensland cities is played at Jack Manski Oval. Unbeaten Townsville welcome the Mackay Cutters who had a good win in Round 2.ย Two points and Northern Queensland pride is on the line.
A long way south down the Bruce Highway is the second game of the weekend, as Central Capras take on the Burleigh Bears in Rockhampton. Both sides are yet to win a game, and both will certainly be attempting to avoid aย treble of losses to start the season.
Staying in North Queensland, the Northern Pride welcome the Sunshine Coast Falcons. The Pride fell just short against Wynnum last week and their record is 1-1, whilst the highly fancied for 2017 Falcons have just 1 point after a first round draw against Easts.
A quality all Brisbane clash completes the Saturday games as Easts Tigers battle the Redcliffe Dolphins.
The big TV game of the weekend is the Flockbuster clash between the two Seagulls sides from Tweed Heads and Wynnum. As if the excellent name of the clash isn’t enough, Tweed Heads have given up home ground advantage to take the game into Moreton Bay to North Stradbroke Island. Those unable to get on the barge will have to settle for Channel Nine.
Perhaps those who can’t make the clash on North Stradbroke Island are all too busy at Davies Park as the ever exciting PNG Hunters make their first Brisbane appearance of the season as they take on the Souths Logan Magpies.
The weekend wraps up at Bishop Park as the Norths Devils welcome the Ipswich Jets. Norths have beaten Burleigh and were competitive against Townsville in Round 1, and another win against Ipswich this weekend will give them the tag of surprise packets so far in 2017.
