Leeds Rhinos re-sign Featherstone winger Briscoe

Leeds Rhinos have announced the re-signing of winger Luke Briscoe on a loan deal until the end of the season.

Briscoe joins from Championship outfit Featherstone Rovers, where he has scored 29 tries in all competitions so far this season and also equalled the rugby league record for tries in consecutive games (17).

He returns for a third spell with the club he started his professional career with, after signing at Leeds in 2012 before going onto make his debut in 2014. Briscoe left for Hunslet Hawks at the end of that season but returned midway through 2016 to help the Rhinos cope with the injury crisis they had at the time.

He re-joins in similar circumstances this time, with injuries to ten first team players leaving Brian McDermott short of options.

Captain and centre Kallum Watkins is out for the season with an ACL injury, utility man Jimmy Keinhorst is currently on the sidelines with a hamstring tear and Ash Handley, who has been named in the 19-man squad for tomorrow, suffered a ‘stinger’ to his shoulder against St. Helens last Friday but Leeds hope he will be fit enough to take part.

Ryan Hall, meanwhile, is unavailable as he is on international duty in Denver as England prepare to take on New Zealand.

24-year-old Briscoe goes straight into the squad for tomorrow’s rearranged round 4 fixture with Catalans Dragons, replacing Jordan Lilley who has failed to recover from a thigh injury.

Briscoe will return to Featherstone when the loan deal expires at the end of the current campaign, while he will also be available for selection by Rovers on dual-registration should he not be used by Leeds at any stage.
