Here’s what we thought defined round 1 of this year’s Super League season.
THAT TACKLE BY TOMMY MAKINSON!
It was almost unanimous this week that Tommy Makinson’s tackle on Leeds Rhinos Liam Sutcliffe was the best moment of the weekend.
Dan Fowler: “Tommy Makinson’s tackle on Liam Sutcliffe. World class! Although Ashton Golding came up with three brilliant defensive plays in the same game too.”
Sean Hayes: “Biggest play of the weekend and ended up being the difference in a tight game”
Jonny Whitfield: “Fantastic tackle and a great defensive effort”
Here’s a reminder of the effort.
GARETH ELLIS STILL HAS IT!
Age shall not weary rugby league great Gareth Ellis as Ian Judson explains.
Ian Judson: “35 year old Gareth Ellis taking on three defenders with less than ten left to play, despite not having had any minutes under his belt in pre-season”
CAS’ NOT INTIMIDATED
It was the first match for promoted club Leigh Centurions in this year’s Super League. Cas’ could have panicked and ended up being embarrassed. That wasn’t the case says Charlotte Fletcher.
Charlotte Fletcher: “Cas having a solid and professional performance. Exactly what was needed against the new boys in the League.”
RHYS WANTS RICHIE BACK!
On a more lighter note, Adam Leah was amused by the play that Rhys Evans came up with during the Wolves away defeat at the hands of Catalans Dragons.
Adam Leah: “Rhys Evans thinking Richie Myler still plays for Wire.”
Well in this photo he sure is!
SKY’S WANTS US TO GUESS THE SCORE AND GAME TIME CLOCK
Well done to Sky Sports for their outstanding coverage to start 2017 with no clock or scoreboard for the thousands of viewers watching the game live.
Is it the pre-Stevo curse?
They shouldn’t really be singled out. I am pretty sure Channel 9 over the years have started off slowly too in the opening fixture of last year’s NRL season.
The only way is up!
