Match Review

North Queensland Cowboys winning streak has been shut down by the Cronulla Sharks on Saturday night in Townsville.

The cowboys had a very strong first half keeping the Cronulla Sharks scoreless. In the second half it was clear they were missing the control and instructions from captain Johnathan Thurston (JT).

Jake Granville was the first to score for the Cowboys in the 12th minute after running straight through Sharks defence. Ethan Lowe successfully converts the try from right in front, putting his team in to the lead 6-0.

Worrying signs for the Cowboys in the 14th minute as Matt Scott was taken off the field with a neck injury.

Cowboys were given back to back penalties and decided on the second one to take the two points. Ethan Lowe successfully converts the penalty to extend the Cowboys lead 8-0.

In the 17th minute Cowboys striked again after Michael Morgan (filling in for JT) ran straight through the sharks line and his speed allowed him to get in front, pass to O’Niell who finished off the job to add extra points to the score. Ethan Lowe again successfully converted the try from close range, increasing the Cowboys lead 14-0.

In the 26th minute the Cowboys were over the line again for another try after brilliant passing, Winterstein finished the job, Ethan Lowe unsuccessful with the conversion but Cowboys remained in the lead 18-0.

Half Time Score- Cowboys were in the lead 18-0.

The Cronulla Sharks came onto the field determined to complete the task at hand.

Two minutes in to the second half, Luke Lewis goes over the line for the first try for the Sharks. Michael Gordon successfully converts the try, cowboys leading 18-6.

In the 68th minute, Sharks go over the try line again with Tagataese finishing the job adding the four points. Michael Gordon successful to convert and keep the Sharks spirits high as they plan a comeback.

With the power of Andrew Fifita to push through Cowboy’s defence, the Sharks score another try in the 61st minute. Michael Gordon successfully converts and levels the score 18 all.

Next set (four minutes later) Sharks go over the line again! Putting them in the lead for the first time tonight. Gordon continues his 100% conversion rate and makes it 4/4, extending the Sharks lead 24-18.

Sharks manage to hold on to the six point lead, upsetting the Cowboys in front of a home crowd ruining their chances of making it 12 wins in a row.
