Should Semi go now?

It was announced overnight that Semi Radradra would leave the Parramatta Eels and effectively the National Rugby League for a new venture into rugby.

He’s not the first, nor will be the last to make switch codes.

From a pure rugby league passionate fans view, I am over players making the move and then coming back to the game.  Sonny Bill-Williams and Sam Burgess in particular.

I believe the door should but shut closed if you want to walk away from the game.  Not everyone will agree but we also need to protect our game and the money we invest in our players.

Back to Semi.

It was a turbulent 2016 for the twenty-four year old off the field with court appearances over domestic violence allegations and continuing speculation that Radradra would join rugby union.

There’s no doubt he’s the excitement machine with 60 tries in 68 matches.

But knowing he’s going to walk away from the game at the end of 2017, what value will he be to the Eels?

Will his heart be devoted to the game that made him a superstar?

I tend to think the Eels should release him with immediate effect and devote as much effort into making Tingha-born Bevan French the next superstar at the club.

With nineteen tries in thirteen games it won’t be long until French’s becomes the best winger in the game.

I sometimes wonder what our rugby league pioneers would think of the amount of switching between rugby codes.

Here’s some tweets posted since Radradra’s announcement.
