Trent Merrin – Leeds Rhinos
There was a lot of talk of ‘will he or won’t he’ but Leeds finally got their man. Merrin is exactly the type of signing that Leeds have been crying out for, a figurehead of their pack. The former Australian international comes over to Super League still in his prime for a forward at the age of 29, especially compared to their ageing forwards Brett Ferres, Jamie Jones-Buchanan and Carl Ablett. His best position is at loose forward where he can use his ball handling skills but he is equally useful as a metre-making prop. The main quality he brings though is leadership and he could be crucial to whether Leeds are contenders once again.
