The fake news that’s actually fake.
Channel Nine have axed the new Footy Show…for the classic Footy Show.
From April 29, following Thursday Night Footy, Nine will air The Footy Show Classics Edition, hosted by Paul ‘Fatty’ Vautin.
Nine’s CEO Hugh Marks got the idea from all the reminiscing from fans about the old Footy Show on Facebook posts complaining about the new Footy Show.
“We’re bringing back all the classic bits: the side-splitting Anti-Ads, the Vomitron, Reg Reagan, Crack a Fat, 60 Seconds with Sterlo, Mahatma Cote, Perfect Partners, Stuff You May Have Missed, Daredevil Dudes, all the Falcon’s gee ups, That’s Gold, Robbo the jockey, Small Talk with the Big Marn, the highlights are endless. We even got Fatty back – thank Christ – to introduce the clips and provide hillarious anecdotes. We’ll even let him show that catch.”
Every Thursday night focuses on a particular year, starting with 1994 on April 29 and ending with 2017 during the finals.
“I’ll admit we buggered up big time trying to revamp the Footy Show, the ratings were crap and nobody liked it. These next 20-odd weeks will be a love letter to the fans, show them how sorry we are,” Marks said.
Vautin is excited to be back. “Mate, I’m dead set stoked! The Footy Show‘s my baby and I can’t wait to return, even if it is just chucking in a few dodgy jokes in between clips. I’ll throw in a few cheeky head wobbles for the fans too.”
The Footy Show host Erin Molan will continue on an extended Friday night at-ground post-game review show, while ‘Small Talk with the Big Marn’ continues as a 9Now online exclusive.
With The Footy Show Classics Edition lasting until September, Marks will review The Footy Show’s future.
“I’ll see how the classic episodes rate. I might even bring Fatty back for the 2019 re-reboot.”
