It’s the time of year that many across the land have been waiting for- Super League is back.
Whilst players and players are busy getting ready with the season eight days away, fans up and down the country have the task of selecting their fantasy rugby league team.
The official Super League Dream Team game (www.sldreamteam.co.uk) awards points for players based on their performances every week. Points are awarded for something positive e.g. scoring tries, making tackles, and breaking the defensive line, whereas they are deducted for giving away penalties, missing tackles, or making errors.
Here at NothingButLeague, we have compiled a list of 12 value-for-money players that you should consider putting in your 2018 Super League Fantasy Team.
- James Green (Castleford Tigers)- £95k
The 27-year old Prop Forward arrives at the Mend-A-Hose Jungle following Leigh’s relegation last season.
It is testament to Green’s character that he chose to sign a one-year deal instead of a two-year deal, instead hoping to earn his contract for the following season with consistent performances.
When Selected, the big forward will give his all to the Tigers cause, and will hope to make his stamp on Daryl Powell’s matchday 17.
If you want a forward who will gain you immense amounts of points for metres made and tackle performed, this workhorse might well be a necessity for your team.
- Samisoni Langi (Catalans Dragons)- £95k

Langi is another player who has departed the Centurions following last year’s relegation and, although joining midway through the season, Langi showed English fans what he can offer.
His versatility is going to be a key factor for Steve McNamara this year; he has passing qualities to unlock defences- which is why he has been handed the number six shirt for the Dragons- yet can also use his size and running game to bolster the pack.
Regardless of where Langi plays, if he can catch the eye as much as he did in the latter stages of the season for Leigh, he will almost certainly be adding points consistently to your team.
- Tom Symonds (Huddersfield Giants)- £80k
Despite an injury-hit 2017 season, Giants fans will inevitably know the quality that Tom Symonds possesses.
An ex Sydney Roosters and Manly Sea-Eagles star, the 28-year old second-rower is someone with plenty of experience- and he knows how to find the try line too.
With an average just under one try every two games for the ‘Claret and Golds’, Symonds can be a real influence for Rick Stone, so long as he doesn’t have a reoccurrence of his knee problems.
For £80,000, he is a cheaper alternative to other second-rowers in the fantasy rugby game, and an injury-free season could see him become one of the hidden gems of the 2018 edition.
- Bureta Faraimo (Hull FC)- £120k
Despite being an unknown to many FC fans before the announcement of his arrival in August 2017, Faraimo could be set to take Super League by the scruff of the neck.
From his pre-season showing, the rampaging winger has shown himself to be a fierce carrier of the ball, more than capable of making tackle busts and gaining crucial metres for his side.
Lee Radford may have lost the influential figure of Mahe Fonua during the off-season, but Faraimo- who scored 29 tries in just half a season for the Mackay Cutters earlier in his playing days- could be a more than adequate replacement.
If he can do a similar role to Fonua, in terms of helping his forwards and taking runs for the team, he could potentially become one of the highest scoring wingers in the fantasy game.
