Here is the betting and stats preview for the knockout finals clash between Parramatta and South Sydney..

SYDNEY ROOSTERS Vs CANBERRA RAIDERS

A repeat of last year’s Grand Final, and for many Canberra fans and neutrals alike there is hope that the controversy and result isn’t repeated this time. Canberra are looking for revenge, and what better way than to halt a premiership for their 2019 rivals. At least the NRL got the referee appointment right by appointing Ashley Klein instead of Ben “Six Again” Cummins. Actually come to think of it, isn’t there a better referee.

QUICK MATCH FACTS

  • The away side have won both games this season.
  • These teams have only met on a Friday once since 1998. The Roosters won the only game back in 2003 by 20-16.
  • Canberra have won their last six Friday games.
  • No team has played fewer Friday games than Canberra since 1998, with 49 games in the 23 seasons at barely two games a season. Even the Warriors have played 66 games on a Friday. For the record they have a 58% winning record.
  • The Roosters also have a 58% winning record on a Friday, but from 135 games since 1998.
  • Roosters have lost their last two games, both against Sydney sides. Prior to those losses it was seven straight wins against Sydney opposition.
  • Thankfully for the Raiders this weekendโ€™s game is at the SCG, where they have won the only clash between these sides since 1998. If it were played at the Roosters old home ground โ€“ the SFS โ€“ it would be all Roosters as their record is 16 wins from 17 games against Canberra.
  • The Roosters have won all four games since 1998 in September or October.

BETTING FACTS

  • Since their 18-6 win over the Raiders five games ago the next four games featuring the Roosters have seen more than 50 points. For Canberra their last three away games would cover the 42.5 total points.
  • Both team average more points in the second half this season. The second half is $1.83 for highest points.
  • Canberra have won the first half in less than 50% of their games this season and were also behind last weekend as well. The Roosters have a better record at 67%, but they have also lost the first half in the past two games.
  • Given the team combined second half points average is 26, the Total Second Half Points line of Over 21.5 looks the one to take. You could also look at the over 3.5 tries for the second half at $1.74.
  • The 6.0 points start looks inviting for a Canberra win. Given the margin between these sides has been over 8 points just twice in the nine games since 2015 perhaps a more conservative bet could be that either side wins by 8 or less Tribet at $2.20.
  • Or take a risk with a Yes to extra time at $15.00.

TRY SCORING

  • The Roosters are in great form for the first try scorer having done so in their last seven games. Even in last weekendโ€™s loss and the big loss to the Rabbitohs. Their tally of 16 times they have scored the first try is second best for the season, and only one behind Penrith.
  • Given a Morris brother has scored first on seven occasions this season, you must take one of them.
  • Canberra have scored the first try in back to back games this season, both against the Sharks. Prior to that the Raiders scored first back in Round 11. In fact between Rounds 3 and 19 Canberra scored first on just two occasions.
  • No player has scored first more than once in 2020 for the Raiders.
  • Further cementing the Morris brothersโ€™ chances of scoring first, eight of 14 times Canberra have conceded first it was by a winger or centre.
  • Of the five times Roosters conceded first this season, four of those five games were against non-Sydney opposition.
  • Canberra have a better record with last try scored this season, which they have done on 15 occasions. But they have slacked off a bit recently, scoring the last try only three times in the past seven games
  • Canberraโ€™s players have scored last on multiple occasions this season, but all trail Brett Morrisโ€™ four times for last try scorer. For the Roosters, of the eight times they have conceded the last try, this has been made up of six different positions, so is prime for any player you feel like. Not forgetting that super prop Josh Papalii was the last try scorer in the Raiders win over the Roosters at the SCG. Fullbacks and Second Rowers have scored twice each on the six times Canberra have conceded the last try.
