Preview

Wigan are hoping to keep pace with the teams at the top of the table at the Halliwell Jones Stadium on Friday night and are taking on a Wakefield side who pushed them all the way when the two teams returned to Super League action last month.

Dom Manfredi suffered a head knock in last weekend’s Challenge Cup quarter final win over Hull FC and has been left out of Adrian Lam’s squad. He joins Joe Bullock, George Burgess, Liam Marshall, Tony Clubb and Jake Shorrocks on the injured list. Liam Byrne and Chris Hankinson are back in Wigan’s squad.

Tom Johnstone is the big inclusion for Wakefield Trinity having not played since these two sides met back on August 9. In further good news, Tinirau Arona, David Fifita, Chris Green, Jacob Miller and Adam Tangata have been named in the twenty-one man squad.  However, Chris Chester has omitted Liam Kay and Eddie Battye after they picked up injuries in their loss to Huddersfield Giants last week.

Prediction

Whilst the last couple of meetings between the two sides have been tight affairs, Wigan should be comfortable winners on this occasion. The Warriors have won five of their last six matches in all competitions in stark contrast to Trinity who have lost their last seven league matches. However, Wakefield can take heart from Hull KR’s shock win against Wigan at the beginning of the month.
