WHAT TO EXPECT

The biggest news coming out of Castleford recently was the announcement that Daryl Powell will be resigning his role as head coach at the end of this season.

Powell’s legacy will be remembered as the coach that turned around the club’s fortunes, from relegation battles to title contenders. Not to mention the League Leaders Shield in 2017.

The Tigers are tied with Huddersfield to win the Super League this season. It would make it the ideal fairytale ending for Powell’s eight-year tenure.

That might be the case as Castleford look like a side that will compete for the play-offs this year, now that they’ve solved their full-back problem with the signing of Niall Evalds.

Their opening fixtures look pretty tough on paper but the squad still showed resilience when they beat Hull Kingston Rovers in a pre-season friendly.

Cas were missing a few key players and came out on top 30-20 winners over a full strength Hull KR side, despite a shaky second-half they still looked like a strong side.

If the Tigers can get off to a strong start, the Mend-A-Hose Jungle will be roaring for a strong campaign.
