WHAT TO EXPECT
With Ian Watson at the helm Huddersfield fans should be excited for the season ahead. The former Salford coach guided the Red Devils to both the Grand Final and Challenge Cup final against the odds, ultimately falling just short on both occasions. Securing a play-off spot should be the club’s target this term and proved they can compete with the league’s best having made a strong start to the season before lockdown.
The man capable of turning the Giants into play-off contenders is half-back Aidan Sezer. The Australian was in contention for the Man of Steel award last term and with some help from his teammates around them should play a leading role again at the John Smith’s Stadium this campaign.
Huddersfield have made some smart signings in the off season which should make them a more solid outfit in 2021. Perhaps the most eye catching arrival is Josh Jones who won the Super League title with St Helens and played an important role in Salford’s run to the Grand Final a couple of seasons ago. The back-rower reads the game extremely well and has a knack for popping up with crucial tries when called upon.
The Giants have a mixed start to the season and will want to win all of their opening three matches before tough games against St Helens and Leeds respectively. Ian Watson’s side have a nice end to the season which could allow them to build some momentum if they qualify for the play-offs.
