Embed from Getty ImagesTaylan May has scored four tries for Samoa in their 62-4 win over France in advancing to the World Cup quarter-finals.
It didn’t take long for the French line to be breached with Jarome Luai’s kick being chase through by Tim Lafai for the Samoan opening try.
Fullback Joseph Suaali’i showed his value at fullback in combining in set plays during the match, chiming in to put Brian To’o over sixteen minutes in.
Luai and Anthony Milford were involved in putting May over for his first, before To’o made a line break to send his fellow Panthers wing partner over for his second. When May went over for his third on the half time siren, the Samoans were 28-0 up.
Just like the first half, the French conceded early with Luai’s break backed up by NRL bound Danny Levi, before May finished off for his fourth of the evening.
To’o was over three minutes later after some lovely hands from Suaali’i and Stephen Crichton in the leadup.
France finally got on the board through a little bit of luck after the ball was spilled at the back which was forced by winger Fouad Yaha.
But that would be the only joy of the night for the French as their defence tired and Samoa were able to record four more tries, including a double to Milford with the first going to an extensive video reply before being awarded.
Junior Paulo’s hit on French fullback Arthur Mourgue was bone rattling and provided one of the best defensive hits at the tournament so far.
While the French bow out, Samoa advances to take on Tonga at Warrington on early Monday Australian time.
