WHAT TO EXPECT
Wigan couldn’t have come much closer to winning the competition last season and will no doubt be confident of claiming Grand Final glory in 2021. Adrian Lam’s side took a big step forward by winning the League Leaders’ Shield last term, and should end St Helens recent dominance by going one step further this season.
Keeping hold of Jackson Hastings for another season might be the best piece of business Wigan did in the off-season. The Australian has been one Super League’s most consistent performers over the last two seasons and contributed 18 try assists last term.
The Warriors may only have signed two players during the off-season, but boy should they make a difference. John Bateman’s return to the club will help deal with the loss of long-serving captain Sean O’Loughlin, and looks a better player following a hugely successful stint in the NRL. Jai Field is another exciting addition to the squad and gives Lam another option at both half-back and full-back.
Wigan have a nice start to the season and should be able to pull clear of some of their title rivals with July looking like the club’s trickiest month of fixtures.
