The All Stars game at Rotorua International Stadium will be the 12th edition of the season opening game which has featured the Indigenous All Stars playing against the NRL All Stars, World All Stars and Maori All Stars.

Jamie Soward’s match-winning try in the 74th minute saw the Indigenous All Stars defeat the NRL All Stars 16-12. Preston Campbell was the captain of the inaugural Indigenous side while Darren Lockyer was nominated as the skipper for the NRL All Stars outfit. Wendell Sailor was the first try scorer in the event’s history, crossing over after three minutes.

Note: no event was held in 2014 or 2018.
