Report
A 30-0 second half blitz has seen the South Sydney Rabbitohs thump the Dolphins at Suncorp Stadium on Thursday night.
It was an ill-disciplined performance from the Dolphins, conceding eight penalties to two and losing a player to the sin bin as they gave up a 14-6 half time lead to lose 36-14.
The Dolphins got off to a perfect start as they identified South Sydneyโs right edge as their weakness and used it to their advantage. Taane Milne couldnโt handle a bomb, gifting the Dolphins a repeat set. From the next play, Kodi Nikorima raced in to force an overlap and set Euan Aitken up for the opening try.
The Dolphins made plenty of metres down the edge and created opportunities but were unable to capitalise as Robert Jennings dropped a pass with the line wide open.
The tide started to turn in the Rabbitohs favour as they successfully defended their line, finally getting their chance when Hamiso Tabuai-Fidow put down a bomb. With their first attacking set, Campbell Graham crossed out wide, with Latrell Mitchellโs conversion drawing the scores level at 6-all.
Another error by Tabuai-Fidow presented the Rabbitohs with attacking field position, however a strong tackle by Jeremy Marshall-King forced an error.
The Dolphins took back the lead in the 29th minute when Jamayne Isaako kicked a penalty goal after Cameron Murray was penalised for a late hit on Nikorima.
They bombed a second try minutes later when Euan Aitken charged through from a glorious pass by Kenny Bromwich but failed to pass to an unmarked Jennings on his outside, instead turning it inside where it was knocked down by Souths.
It ultimately didnโt matter though as Marshall-King went himself in the next set.
A last second attacking raid by the Rabbitohs was defused by Isaako, sending the Dolphins to half time with a 14-6 advantage.
An element of luck saw the Rabbitohs put on back-to-back tries to start the second half. The first was scored by Graham following a repeat set after a fortunate bounce from a Mitchell kick.
The second three minutes later to Cody Walker came as a result of ricochets off a pair of Dolphins defenders after Alex Johnston made a break down the sideline.
Mitchell extended the margin to a converted try with 20 minutes remaining with a penalty goal after Jacob Host was tackled off the ball.
The Dolphins job was made harder when Kenny Bromwich was sin binned for a high, early tackle on Milne.
With an extra player on the field, the Rabbitohs started piling on three tries in six minutes as they targeted the Dolphins right edge where Bromwich would have been.
Isaiah Tass scored a simple try in the 63rd minute before Mitchell muscled his way over shortly after.
A glorious cut out pass from Walker set Johnston up for his first try in a month, blowing the score out to 36-14, where it remained at full time.
