MATCHDAY PREVIEW

Everyone tends to lose their minds after round one of every season. It was no different this year.

The Sharks looked gritty and tough in their win against the Warriors while the Bulldogs, according to many, are the โ€œsame oldโ€. But that wasnโ€™t the case.

Canterbury showed determination in defence not seen in several seasons. They constantly repelled a strong Parramatta attack, who completed 22/22 sets in the first half. But still, their critics canโ€™t see improvement.

Cronulla were also criticised for their inability to defeat top eight teams. They did a great job in round one: although some might say that, like most teams, they have some improving to do. Nicho Hynes will want to show more than he did against New Zealand (59 run metres, no try assists and no line break assists) as will Matt Burton. Granted, the Bulldogs barely had the ball against Parramatta, and when they did, they more often than not made an error.

Itโ€™s hard to see anything but a Sharks win given their stronger and larger pack. Theyโ€™ll be better for their outing last week. But so will the Bulldogs.

Head-to-head stats can be found at Round 2 Number Crunch.
