MATCHDAY PREVIEW

The Sharks will be looking to build on last week’s win over the Souths when they take the Cowboys on Sunday.

While they’ve had some good wins, their lapses in concentration are not a good sign for coach Craig Fitzgibbon. Against the Raiders in round 4, they were 18-nil in the first half before making a comeback. They let Souths get within six points before a try to Blayke Brailey sealed the game with two minutes remaining.

Sione Katoa will miss this weekend’s game after being suspended for one match. Sam Stronstreet will make his NRL debut on the wing. Braden Hamlin-Uele, who battled a knee injury to start the year, will return to the bench for his first game.

This season, the Cowboys are the Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde of the NRL. They are a great team when they’ve been on, but a few times this season, they have under-delivered. One performance even had coach Todd Payten saying they would struggle to beat group nine side (and Payten’s junior club) the Temora Dragons.

Semi Valemei will play his first game of the year, coming onto the wing for Murray Taulagi, who has a hamstring injury. Scott Drinkwater will play his 100th game as well.

Head-to-head stats can be found at Round 7 Number Crunch.
