MATCHDAY PREVIEW
The two elder statesmen of the Queensland clubs come face to face for the first time in 2025 with the Broncos hosting the Cowboys in a primetime Friday night clash. Both sides will be disappointed from their performances in round 2 and will be looking for a big bounce back against their bitter rivals.
Both sides have no shortage of star power and any of them have the power to swing the game in an instant which makes this game must watch footy. Fullbacks Reece Walsh and Scott Drinkwater both have the benefit of a high-risk playstyle with a gold fish memory, meaning regardless of how many errors they make, they are ready the next time they get their chance.
The Broncos came crashing back down to earth from their impressive round one performance as they walked into an ambush in the nation’s capital, walking away battered and bruised following their 32-22 loss. Star forwards Payne Haas and Pat Carrigan will be stinging from letting the Raiders forwards get the better of them and most fans will be very surprised if they let this happen two weeks in a row.
The Cowboys have had a very sluggish start to the year and the perfect way to get their first win on the board and build some confidence could be to topple big brother Brisbane in their first clash of the year. The Cowboys have conceded 78 points in the last two weeks and will need to sort out their defensive issues quickly otherwise the strike out wide of the Broncos will have a field day.
in team news, the Broncos have named the same 17 that fell to the Raiders but could have a late change with Kotoni Staggs looming on the extended bench while the Cowboys have recalled Jake Clifford and Jeremiah Nanai into the fold with Tom Duffy and Karl Lawton making way.
