MATCHDAY PREVIEW
A traditional rivalry built on grand final clashes and geographic division adds another chapter to its storied history this Sunday, when the Sea Eagles host the Eels.
The home side, coming off a thumping win against the Raiders, welcomes back their star fullback Tom Trbojevic, which sees Lehi Hopoate shift to the wing. The only other change sees Josh Aloiai come in for Taniela Paseka, who is set to miss most of the season after rupturing his Achilles.
Meanwhile, the Eels enter Round 4 off the back of another loss โ though it came with a much-improved performance. The only changes to their side are Sean Russell replacing Jordan Samrani, and Daniel Keir coming in for Sam Tuivaiti.
Manly were near flawless last week and will look to replicate โ or even improve on โ that performance in their second consecutive home game. The return of Trbojevic is a huge boost, especially against a side that has leaked points early in the season. If thereโs one question mark hovering over them heading into this clash, itโs whether the recent news around Daly Cherry-Evans and his exit at seasonโs end will impact the teamโs focus.
For the Eels, fans will be hoping their halves can offer more in attack. While last week marked a step forward defensively, their execution with ball in hand was lacking. Dean Hawkins was solid on club debut and will look to build on that, but Dylan Brown remained quiet โ as has been the case all season โ which only adds pressure to his place in the squad.
Ultimately, if the game plays out to expectations, the Sea Eagles should come away with the win. The Eels will aim to maintain last weekโs defensive improvement while sharpening their attacking execution, but Manly may simply have too much firepower to contain.
