Tyrone Roberts has been a player who generated mixed opinions from the Halliwell Jones faithful. Coming from Australia is never easy and to play for a club as ambitious as Warrington is a task in itself.
Since his arrival as Steve Price’s first signing as Wolves boss, Roberts had a slow start, as did the whole team. In the past weeks his performances have improved drastically, showing what he is really capable of.
Nevertheless, it was announced back in June that he was to leave Wolves at the end of the 2018 season to move back to Australia.
So, who could take the number seven jersey from 2019 onwards? Take a look at some suggestions below:
Kyle Eastmond
Kyle Eastmond, an ex-Super League player with St Helens, is a free agent after stints in Rugby Union with Wasps and Bath. He has been heavily linked with a move back to Rugby League and Warrington do head the list of clubs interested.
Rumours suggest a deal is close but no sources have confirmed this. Kyle has many skills, being a small and agile player who knows his way to the try line. He also has a creative side which is why he is the ideal choice for the Wolves as their new playmaker in the halves.
Joe Mellor
Joe Mellor, a longstanding player for the Widnes Vikings, is forever being linked with a move away from the Select Security Stadium.
Mellor is a creative 6 who makes things happen for Widnes. A Warrington boy himself, I’m sure he’d chomp at the bit to sign for the Wire if the opportunity arose; whether it will or not is still to be seen.

He has learnt huge amounts of respect as a young rugby league player coming through and making it as an established Super League halfback. Mellor knows exactly what it’s like to play with Kevin Brown, doing so for Widnes for many a year. If Brown stays past this season, that partnership of old could be a good one to replicate.
Chris Sandow
The elephant in the room- Chris Sandow. He was a sensation in Warrington colours throughout the 2016 season. Reaching the Challenge cup final and Grand final, Sandow was a huge part of the Wire team two years ago.
He fell out with the club and eventually left, but has reportedly been asking for a move back. There is a divide over whether he should return or not, but given that Steve Price said there was more chance of the kit-man taking Roberts’ spot, the chances are looking very slim indeed!
