Huddersfield Giants have parted company with head coach Rick Stone after the club’s poor start to the season.
He becomes Super League’s first coaching casualty of the season, after earning just two wins from their opening seven matches.
A heavy 48-10 defeat at Wigan proved to be the end for Stone at the Giants, and he leaves the club in 11th place in the Betfred Super League table.
Chris Thorman has been placed in temporary charge for the busy Easter weekend, with Huddersfield facing Leeds Rhinos on Friday.
Giants Managing Director Richard Thewlis said: “It is a very difficult call for any club to make in respect of the Head Coach but that board felt that a change was needed and that the change should be made sooner rather than later.
“Rick Stone is an outstanding man, character and coach but the results for us simply haven’t worked out as anyone would have wished for.”
Stone led the club to safety in the Qualifiers after taking charge in 2016, before taking them into the Super 8s with a top eight finish last term.
However, 2018 hasn’t held the same success and Huddersfield lie second from bottom of the table with just four points and the worst defensive record in the league so far.
