A match filled with twists and turns is exactly what a derby should be. Controversy, passion and intensity all over the place, Hull FC were triumphant despite being down to 12 men for 70 minutes of the game.

The scoring opened within two minutes through Danny Houghton’s try after Mickey Paea was deemed to have had the ball stolen from him over the line and Houghton scrambled to touch it down.
A solid start and an easy afternoon for Hull was soon in jeopardy after Bureta Faraimo was sent off for a high shoulder charge shot on Chris Atkin.
Following this was a strong period for the Rovers attack. Soon after, Thomas Minns scored through a dubious Justin Carney pass that could have been ruled forward.
However, after a 40/20 from Marc Sneyd, Fetuli Talanoa got a sensational try right in the corner, with just a fingertip away from being out of touch.
Jamie Shaul was up next on the scoresheet for the Black and Whites before Minns scored his and Rovers second try of the afternoon. To finish off the half, Talanoa added his second, giving him 9 for the season. With Sneyd missing the conversion, it gave Hull a 22-12 lead going into half-time.
Coming out for the second half, Rovers looked like having all thirteen men on the pitch was going to be to their advantage.
Ryan Shaw crossed within the first five minutes and after Sneyd missed a penalty from the 40m line, Jake Connor crossed for one of the easiest try he’ll ever score to give the Black and Whites a 28-16 lead following the kick.
Sneyd added a further penalty before Minns added another for his hat-trick for the day. A nervy last ten minutes but Hull FC prevailed 30-22.
WHAT WE’VE LEARNED
12-MEN HULL RESILLIENT
Despite playing 70 minutes with a man down, Hull FC managed to show some great bursts of flair and energy. The performance was scrappy but there were glimmers of excellent attack despite Faraimo’s red card.
ROVERS NOT FAR OFF
They may have lost the game but Hull KR were not bad technically. Giving away penalties cost them and to put in a showing when several key players were injured just showed that they may have the fight in them to make the top eight.
