Castleford got their season opener off to a great start, against a Warrington side in which departing head coach Steve Price decided not to pick big name signing Greg Inglis, owing to lack of physical preparation.
Interestingly, Warrington got off to a slow start and conceded first, with Castleford crossing through Oliver Holmes. Gareth O’Brien managed to convert to put his side 6-0 up before succumbing to injury shortly after. Warrington managed to reply soon after through Toby King but that would be their only highlight for the half.
A lacklustre performance following the try saw Warrington concede 10 unanswered points, first through Niall Evalds – who crossed with ease – and then through Jordan Turner, with the new signing claiming a try on Super League debut for the club.

Warrington weren’t much better in the second half and were once again out-played by a rampant Castleford side.
Despite opening the scoring in the second half through Darryl Clark, Warrington struggled to come close to challenging for a result in the game with countless errors costing them good field position.
That said, a key refereeing decision from Chris Kendall led to another Castleford score for Turner, that all but put the game out of reach for the Wolves after Paul McShane added a drop goal with less than ten minutes to play. Given their designated kicker failed to convert any of their tries.
Warrington never gave up, however, and Blake Austin scored a consolation try five minutes from time which Gareth Widdop failed to convert, leaving the final score standing at 21-12.
