MATCHDAY PREVIEW
The New Zealand Warriors make the journey across the Tasman to take the battle to the Tigers at Campbelltown on Sunday evening. Both sides have bounced back from disappointing round ones to make it two wins on the trot, but only one of them can make it three straight. The Warriors grinded out a 14-6 win against the Roosters in round three while the Tigers dispatched The Dolphins 30-18.
Both forward packs line up with plenty of punch, but the key to this match-up lies in the battle of the two enforcers in the front row. James Fisher-Harris arrived at the Warriors off the back of five straight grand finals and with over 200 games of first grade experience and is a bona-fide alpha for the Warriors. But he will have the young upstart Terrell May to contend with as May continues his push for an Origin berth as he spearheads an impressive forward pack out in Tiger Town in just his first full season as a starting front rower: with just over 50 NRL games under his belt he already has numbers that rival the best forwards in the league.
The Tigers have turned around their defense this season, having conceded the fewest points of any side in the NRL over the opening three rounds. They also have the seventh most ineffective tackles in the league, meaning that their scramble as a side has been very impressive; and if they can keep up this level of defensive resolve, they can minimize the points against them and rely on the attacking prowess of Luai, Galvin, and Koroisau to get the scoreboard ticking over in their favour.
The Warriors’ spine has been hit-and-miss to start the year, but oh my word was Charnze a hit last week! The fullback was immense in their last start, running for over 300 metres with two try assists and nine tackle breaks. The fullback has been under some pressure from Taine Tuapiki, but reminded the league and fans of just how good he can be, and that the Warriors number one jersey belongs to him.
The Warriors have lost Roger Tuivasa-Sheck to a hamstring injury, with Adam Pompey sliding out to the wing and Rocco Berry coming in at centre, while the departure of Dylan Walker to the Eels will see a new face join the bench. Meanwhile, the Tigers are 1-17 from their last start, assuming that Jeral Skelton overcomes his injury in time for Sunday’s kick-off.
MATCHDAY PREDICTION
Tigers by 8 points.
