Catalans Dragons have signed former London Broncos and Leigh Centurions half-back Josh Drinkwater on a deal until the end of the season.

The signing comes after the news that Luke Walsh has been forced into retirement, after struggling this season with an ankle injury.

Drinkwater had been playing this year for Western Suberb Magpies in Australia, but now returns to Super League with the Dragons for the remainder of 2018.

“Replacing Luke in our squad will be Josh Drinkwater, who we are delighted to say has agreed to join us with immediate effect,” said Catalans head coach Steve McNamara.

“Josh has had a brilliant start to the season in the NSW Cup in Australia and having previous experience in the Super League competition knows a lot about the game over here.”

The 25-year old played for London during the 2014 season as the Broncos failed to avoid relegation.

After a spell with Wests Tigers, he returned to England in 2016, helping Leigh into Super League before leaving after their relegation in the Million Pound Game last season.

Catalans are currently bottom of Super League, having won just two of their opening 11 games.
