The Lance Todd Trophy is one of the most historic awards a Rugby League player can win, with legends of the game, including Lee Briers, Kevin Sinfield, Sean Long, Martin Offiah and Paul Wellens picking up the award in recent years. The current holder is two time winner Marc Sneyd, but who will the Rugby League Writers Association select to win this prestigious award this year?

Here are five players who could pick up the award on Saturday afternoon.

Stefan Ratchford

The Wire’s number one has been one of the stand out performers in Super League this season, with the England international continuing to go from strength to strength, from his quick ball returns in attack to his never give up attitude in defence.

Ratchford is a big-game player, and will look to take his game to new heights and emulate Brett Hodgson to win the Lance Todd Trophy as a Wolves full-back.

Josh Charnley has returned to rugby league in style after his stint in union with Sale, scoring 22 tries this season including nine in the Challenge Cup alone.

The Wolves winger definitely knows where the try line is, and with his determination to make line breaks he is someone that Catalans will need to keep quiet.

Can he emulate Leeds’ Ryan Hall and Tom Briscoe, and be the third winger in five years to win the award?

Daryl Clark

The hooker has had an impressive 2018 and looks to be back to his 2014 Man of Steel best, with Warrington now the beneficiaries.

His quick play the balls get them on the front foot and he is exceptional at finding gaps for his teammates to exploit, while he is a machine in defence having completed the second most tackles in Super League this season.

The bookies’ favourite for the award, Clark will be looking to add the honour to his impressive collection.
